The Images In This Section Are From This Booklet That We Mailed Home

The United States has the cleanest Navy in the world. Early training in cleanliness helps maintain this tradition. Every item of washable clothing must be washed after a day's wearing. No experts at a chore previously done in the family wash or at the nearby laundry, recruits get adept at it before the two months are up. Recruits furnish own soap available in Navy Exchange.

For many men away from home for the first time, homesickness is a common malady. There are two recommended ways of lessening it: keeping busy and writing and receiving letters from home. Each man is encouraged to write home at least once a week.

An aerial view overlooking the north end of NTC shows the Boat Channel and recruits in whites drilling on Preble Field. Athletic area (left) is adjacent to Preble.

Adjacent to Bainbridge is the R-4 building (at left; landscaped with trees and across from parked cars).
