These pages reflect what it was like in boot camp back in 1963 when we of Company 429 had first enlisted. We did have few who crossed over from other branches or broken service with a reduction in rank that we had to compete with, but that's how it went. Items here are scanned from the two sources pictured above. To the upper right, is the brochure that we mailed home to our families illustrating some of the things that an enlisted sailor went through in Basic Training. It's the I'm At The U.S. Naval Training Center, it's viewed by clicking the silver buttons above. We simply called the place NTC, so that's how they are labled. On the upper left is the "year book" containing the actual pictures of us being hammered into sailors. On the books, we were Company 63-429 reflecting the year of our company. Those items are accessed by clicking silver company buttons above.
Thats me as a Chief Petty Officer on the left. That fellow is still the warrior shackled inside this now-aging body trying to get out. Click on that button below that says History, and you'll see how boot camps came about to begin with. This section should bring a few memories to some. I have also included under that History button, a free MP3 download of that vinyl record of Boot Camp sounds that came inserted within The Anchor.
