Being A Kid Back In The Middle Ages |
You are invited to step back a half-century or so with me into the days of my youth - The Middle Ages of movie theater entertainment. "Talkies" had already supplanted the Silent Film, and the Nickelodeon with it's live pianist was long a thing of the past. Cartoons were in color as were a few movies created after 1919 or so, but I never got to see those marvels of colorful movies myself until the second releasing of The Wizard Of Oz in 1949 when I was seven years old. Today absolutely everyone is very blase about pretty much everything, but back then for this seven year old to watch a movie begin in the usual black & white, then have it suddenly burst into blazing techicolor was a totally breathtaking experience. For what I consider the Middle Ages came to a close when the warring between the film industry of Hollywood and the early days of the television industry finally ended in the 1950's. Chainfall |
